Thankyou all for your cheery welcomes.

@Giddy Goat we used to live in Fulbourn !
@e-richard I do a bit more than that list although it has been raining so much today that the veg plot hasn't had a look in.

If anyone is interested you might like to read my blog at fulbourntofrance.blogspot.fr . It peters out in 2010 but has some of the details of what happened in October and November 2009 in the preamble to coming here.

Anyway, read you all again soon!

Hello everyone - I've been here for quite a while but have never really been brave enough to post anything much. Real beginners, we bought our gites as a going concern last year. Worked very hard over the winter to renovate as much as we could, had crises and lots of fun too - but LMH has been a wonderful resource and at times, a great comfort!. I'm in awe of La Vache, Enid, Giddy Goat, Kendal, Mouse and all the other people who pass on their knowledge and experience to people like me who appreciate it so much. Thank you and I think you're all brilliant! And now I've got that over with, I might be more brave and post some more (once I've got over this evening's drama of a cancelled booking, selling cancelled week and then the original guests e-mailing and phoning to ask to re-instate their weeks....)

Welcome, by the way.

Why ever not
Welcome to the forum, jlaceysmith, and don't ever be afraid to post. But then I felt exactly the same back in the dark ages when I joined this forum.

I love a little bigging, so thank you jlaceysmith and I'll try not to let it go to my head! Welcome from me too. What sweet properties you have, and some lovely pics on the gallery. Alors, bonne chance and we'll help you in whatever way we can.

Peggymac, Fulbourn is a nice village but Cantobre definitely has the competitive edge! :D

Thank you all for your lovely welcome and kind words about our place - we love it to bits and will get there with the renovations and the garden eventually, then I can do something better with my home-made website. Big plans, small pockets! (well, they were quite large before we started....). Hope everyone has a lovely sunny day.

Hello

Hello,

We don't have a website yet, as the property is undergoing renovations, but we hope to be up and running in the autumn (should be there now, but *inevitable* delays) with a cottage in the western Lake District. I've been absorbing many tips from these forums, so many thanks.

Hi everyone,

Well I'm new on this forum and have just converted an old stone built cow barn into a holiday home for 2. We bought our bungalow within 5 minutes of seeing it and on the site was the barn. We are situated in rural Ireland in Co. Mayo although my wife is English (Me? I'm Cornish). We retired here but I admit I miss the fun of running a business so we have started this little project. If we make any money we will probably spend the surplus on holidays and fun.

At this moment I don't have a website but my brainy Grandaughter is building one for me. (Her job is troubleshooting problems for her company)Mind you the e mails flying around at the moment between us is unbelievable being in 2 countries.

The business I ran was a Fire Consultancy specialising in Care i.e. Care and Nursing homes and Private Hospitals

I have learned a lot already from this forum and hopefully I will also able to contribute

Hi fredarth and welcome.

Good luck with your project, I'm sure you'll find it enjoyable and there's lots of advice available here.

As an ex Fire Consultant, I can see you'll be a popular addition as we try and unravel the mysteries of regulations for conversions! (Did we really, as advised, have to put in fire doors with closers everywhere? Closers are a PITA and the only things that have ever attracted negative comments from our guests. )

I have found that having sat on both sides of the fence i.e. Local Authority Fire Prevention and with the consultancy that we must accept that Fire Prevention sometime is not an exact science. I have found that with careful thought most problems can be solved amicably between the Fire Prevention Officer and the owner.

If your property has a fire alarm with smoke detection perhaps "free Swing Closers "may be the answer. The doors fitted with these act just like ordinary doors until the Fire Alarm sounds and then the doors close automatically as if they were on a closer.

Just a suggestion BUT work with the Local authority fire prevention officer.

I'll send the bill later :D :D :D
