I need to change the URL's in my signature so logged in to do so and pressed 'submit' to be told "too many URL's the maximum number is one!

How come I currently have four but I'm only allowed one - have the rules changed since I joined in 2007

Yes, it's now set to one url, as the point of it is to link to your property, rather than add link juice to multiple links.
