BC and damage deposits

The question of whether or not to require damage deposits raises a number of issues for both owners and guests. VRBO offer to do this on your behalf inasmuch as they will pre-authorise a specified amount but not actually debit the money from the guest until and unless there is a claim. What happens at that point is not clear to me. Maybe the guest has the right to challenge the charge, but I don't know. Is there a dispute mechanism? Not been there so can't comment.
Just as a point of information, however, it seems that BC is now offering a similar service. Again, the details are a tad sketchy and, indeed, it does say that the option is in 'beta'. Currently, it appears to be free but I guess there's no doubt that it'll become an added extra in due course - these guys don't do anything for free!
