An extra 5% tax on none residents rental income/profit....

Post by Paul Carmel »

Spain has for 2021 revised its tax system for UK tax payers on income from rental property in Spain, its gone from 19% to 24% with no allowances of any costs against income.

I dont have link to this, if anyone does it maybe helpful.

It is a common fact that under EU rules you should be taxed in the same way as nationals of that country and under the same conditions.
The only new bit is the UK left the EU.

This popped up in a news feed I have.

Non Spanish residents but are EU citizens are discriminated against.

That will not apply to all the members here as some live in Spain.

Several years ago a former member of LMH and a friend of mine, who happened to reside in Switzerland, but owns a holiday rental in Spain was required to pay a larger tax rate on receipts, because he lived outside the EU. This situation did not last for long, because a successful group action case was brought against Spain in Brussels on the matter, and Spain had to restore the status quo.

Andrew, Spain has a number of non compliance issues outstanding with the EU.

Not all are tax related. :x

I have found that I am still liable to pay a Modelo 210 non-letting tax even though my property was not rented out at all in 2020.

I have used an online service called www.spanishtaxesonline.com that takes care of calculating and filing this return on your behalf if you dont want to interact with the Agencia Tributaria website yourself.
