Insurance recommendations
We have just bought a cottage in rural Suffolk that we plan to let as a holiday let next summer. We need to do some building work first (starting in January). Can anyone recommend an insurer? So far I have got a quote from Towergate but would like to get a couple of other quotes for comparison. I assume also that once it is ready to let I will need a different type of cover - are there any particular insurers you would recommend? Many thanks.
It’s a difficult time to recommend insurers as so many companies have not behaved very well during the Covid pandemic, to the extent there has been a test case brought to the High Court (now subject to appeal) by the FSA. I don’t think anyone is impressed at the moment.
You do need specialist insurance to cover your public liability. If you will accept dogs or pets, make sure that is covered and look carefully at what is required during the winter when you may have voids re protecting against burst pipes etc.
Schofield’s, Boshers are two common companies. NFU are still making deductions from claims re Covid that the government say they shouldn’t, but that might get sorted with the test case.
Best of luck with your new venture. I wish you every success.
