Spain has ordered the closure of ALL TOURIST ACCOMODATION giving until 26th March to chuck out your existing guests. This situation hasn't been helped by images of hooligan Brits defying the quarantine rules in places like Benidorm.
But for those who feel the need for official orders to back up insurance claims this is probably good for owners.
And in the meantime in our little fishing town of Palamos the local hospital has registered 6 cases of the bug and 61 staff members are in quarantine. They had already set up a system of one intensive day followed by a day-off so they have a full team unaffected.
We are now self-imposing total quarantine with the seagulls. No more trips to the supermarket for a couple of weeks.

Just managed to wave goodbye to our last guests, an American couple who were on stage one of their European tour but ended up trapped in our apartment while they tried to work out a way of getting back to Boston. Water heater unplugged, fridge off, lights on a timer, some clothes strategically left in full view and managed to make a half-convincing 'person asleep under the duvet' out of spare pillows and so on. Why? Vacant apartments in the building had in the past been squatted by 'okupas' and now there are a number of tourist apartments empty for goodness knows how long. Something else to worry about along with the sudden loss of income.

Thanks for sharing Costa Brava. Do you mean that for guests, this will help with their insurance claim?

What I meant was that if the accommodation they had booked has been positively closed it should strengthen insurance claims thereby lessening the demand for refunds. It's messy whatever way and it depends on individual insurance policies etc. But when the government has ordered the closure at least the situation is clearer. Up to now either the guest or the owner had to make the decision.
Another point for owners who are in Spain at the moment. If there is a need to take the car out you need to have a very good reason and only one person can be in the car (except the kids or you have some provable reason). The fine I believe is 300-400€. For our bit of the coast the police yesterday barricaded the access roads to stop second residence people moving out of Barcelona.
