Previously free light bulbs. Now insulate your loft for free

We have been getting free (cheap) light bulbs for a couple of years now via a scheme. Today we have received an email from the same people to say that we can have our "combles" insulated for free.

We have googled it and it does seem true. Being originally from Yorkshire we are naturally sceptical about anything "free". Do any other LMHers know anything about it?

It is only open to fiscally resident home owners we believe and there are rules on revenue. Any more information (especially experiences) would be very useful.

thanks in advance

We have also benefitted from the free lightbulbs! We have also used the insulation scheme.

Last autumn we were looking at the prices of loft insulation for our combles perdus and stumbled across this page https://www.leroymerlin-isolation.fr/ . After the initial assessment we were deemed to be too rich for the 1€ offer (despite our low income/RFR) but were ok for the 2€/m²-including-installation tariff.

It is genuine but the process is very slow! We eventually had a call at the end of December to say we were being put forward to the installation company, situated 150km away, who then sent us a devis for top notch insulation, installed at 2€/m², about 20% of their usual price. The devis came, I signed it, I chased them all through the spring and they eventually came at the end of June. We've yet to see how the bills are going but we think the VMC is quieter (the insulation shields the noise in the loft maybe?) and we also think that during the heatwave this summer it has kept us a little cooler.

We didn't have to pay a deposit up front, the only frustration was going through the winter without our planned upgrade as we had already signed the devis.

Thanks for the information and your experiences. Definitely worth looking further into this.

You have nothing to lose by enquiring at least!

"The VMC is quieter" What is VMC? Is this a polite term for the loir?
