Hello Everyone...am attempting to find information regarding now being able to choose electricity providers here in PT......have checked the Portuguese news through their search engine with no luck. EDP site is very technical and can not really understand....
Have been told by neighbor that we need to choose even if it is staying with EDP by end of the month . We want to keep the low night tarif and again our neighbor insists that this is only possible by choosing to stay with EDP.
any info appreciated...thanks

Hi aasta, we have the dual tariff at home here in Algarve. We're staying with EDP....(don't think - not sure - that the other providers do a dual tarrif ...........yet.

There are simulators for alternative tariffs available on these websites but it seems that there isn't much real competition yet and little advantage, if any, in changing especially if on bi-horária:

There is no need to panic as the final decision doesn't need to be made until end 2014 or 2015, depending on your potência. However prices will be deliberately and steadily inflated during the transitional period to encourage switching. The free market prices and 'regulated' prices from EDP for bi-horária are currently identical.
