Euro bank account?

Post by Flovalflyeruk »

First post so bear with me!
We are currently looking at a cottage to buy in Southern Ireland.
This will obviously entail local taxes and utilites. Do you recommend a euro account or can we do euro direct debits another way? Currently banks charges seem to be a killer!
Any thoughts on the best bank to go with? All advice greatly received..
Piers.

I bank with the Bank of Ireland and have always found them good. You are going to need a Euro account to set up direct debits etc so I don't see a way round NOT having an Irish bank account without paying individual conversion charges for each payment. My bank make it easy to set up payments and bank online. But that is just my personal experience and you are bound to get horror stories about any bank anywhere!

There are charges, yes, unless you are a Golden Years customer ( over 60) and then it is free for cheque and DD transactions.
