Arriving by helicopter!

Post by KathyG »

How cool is this? And we were lucky enough to be there to witness it - but only 'cos they arrived 4 hours early!! But I'll forgive them for the photo opportunity. :D

Thanks Jane, would have been better with a bit of blue sky there too.

The mad thing is that they live in London and had planned to fly London to Brittany yesterday but couldn't due to the exclusion zone around London due to the Olympics. So.......husband flew helicopter to Le Touquet last Friday, left it there then flew back to London. Then both of them flew to Le Touquet to fly the helicopter to the house. Crazy eh?

Great picture, Kathy... I'm sure with a bit of Photoshop tweaking you could easily insert a nice blue sky there...

gosh, kathy... you DO have a large sort of 'backyard' i think... brilliant!

there once was a multi-millionaire in the netherlands, with a large mansion-like property including a huge lawn, fed up with traffic jams, who bought a heli and fought for years to get a permission to fly with his precious toy.

the flying was no problem at all. he was qualified, and it was a 'business tool', as he explained to our authorities; alas, to no avail...

he had to sell it in the end. 'cause he was only allowed to land at 'properly qualified airports'. where he still should have a chauffeur driven car available... and (catch 22!) he would not be allowed to fly it back to his mansion. as it was not a 'properly qualified airport'. so much for dutch laws!

These people have a 'surface licence' Lydia, all they have to do (in France anyway) is get the owner's permission (me) and notify the local gendarmes and the maire.

Our land isn't that huge really, behind the helicopter you can see some concrete posts, that's our boundary. The bit to the right with the haybale in belongs to someone else, no house on it though, they just use it to store wood and grow damsons so there's rarely anyone there. I must admit I often treat it as ours too when I'm out there with the dogs.

Great quote GB, might be using that once I've sorted the sky. Thank you. :)
