Pool Pump On Times in Spain

Post by joddle »

In Spain most people with smart meters are now on a variable tariff with prices at peak rate about 13.3 cents per kwh. Mid-rate is 4.2 cents and off-peak just 0.6 of a cent per kwh.

The high peaks apply M-F from 10am to 2pm then again from 6pm to 10pm. The mid price from 8adm to 10am then 2pm to 6 pm then 10pm to midnight. The rest is all low tarrif as are all weekends

All this set me to thinking when it would be best to operate the pool pump. Our usual setting of 3 hours per day breaks into the high tariffs at both ends so I intend changing the timer settings next time I am at the property in a few days time. Is it best to stick to two sessions of 3 hours per day or change to three sessions of 2 hours? Either way I cannot really see how to get everything entirely into the low tariffs and maintain good pool quality; but can see how to totally avoid the high tariffs. Any thoughts from other pool owners in Spain and what are you doing?
I don't profess to own anything here apart from my own opinion.
