My view, which isn’t going to be popular, is that if you aren’t committed to the idea and work of running it successfully, at a profit, as a holiday let as the prime intention, then don’t do it. Nobody else will do it all for you, you’ll need constant involvement even if from a distance, and a compl...

I joined on the basis that PASC have been the leading light in the last few months, their cleaning protocols for Covid adopted widely, and referenced as the guide on the gov website. I’ve been a member of HHA/EASCO for years and their input over the last few months has been very thin. Currently all ...

the fact is, in a contained environment like self-catering, flu can live on surfaces for 48hrs or more, so how is that any different from Covid-19? We didn't take these measures before. If you’ve seen any news in the last 6 months there seems to be a suggestion that Covid-19 is a tad more contagiou...

Keep with paper as it is less of a far greater risk of harbouring the virus. Plastic has a far great risk associated with it. But is plastic not much easier to clean? The point with these e-guestbooks is that they’re available via the guest’s own mobile or laptop, and they can also print off anythi...

Covid-19 became a notifiable disease at 6.15pm on the 5th March 2020. Evidence below, you may wish to revisit your insurer! There are very few policies where the cover for loss of income is not based on the insurer’s list of specified diseases, included as part of the policy, rather than a catch-al...

Hi, After a couple of months of going back and forth with my insurer, they have finally agreed to pay out on our Loss of Profit cover. We've not been covered by any other government support schemes and have been surviving on Universal Credit since March. They are honouring a clause in the policy th...

You would be breaking the law. The exemtions are quite clear. (4) A person referred to in paragraph (3) may continue to carry on their business and keep any premises used in that business open— (a)to provide accommodation for any person, who— (i)is unable to return to their main residence; (ii)uses...

I remember some time ago debate about the requirement for registration as it affects our businesses, with various interpretations. FWIW my interpretation back then (and it may have been clarified since as it was probably at least 3 years ago) was that we needed to register, although I don’t recall t...

Deposits on ceramic hobs can usually be removed easily with a sharp scraper which is an essential part of the cleaning kit! Glass is much harder than the steel blade in the scraper so the risk of scratching is minimal. Something like this Some deposits, eg jam, need to be removed fairly quickly or ...

Yes it’s a good idea, when we started we also offered half price stays to acquaintances provided they did a very critical snagging list - ours were new conversions in a barn, so “untested”. When you say the owners claim the property earns >£20k pa I’m assuming that’s revenue and not income? As a ver...

The situation in England and Wales is different from Scotland. An EPC is not required for an FHL in England and Wales until the property is sold, when an EPC forms a part of the sale of any property (other than listed properties). That was the result of the challenge by EASCO and the Tourism Allianc...
