Anne, if neither of you is now employed or self employed and you don't have a UK state pension, you'll need to apply to CPAM to join PUMA, the universal health care system that replaced CMU-B last year.

1- Do you run gites and earn/gros £15'000 + per annum? No. But have done in past (euros not pounds) and could do now, but we're letting for a restricted number of weeks now because of my other activities. 2 - Do you have a pool? No 3 - Are you within walking distance of a shop/bar/restaurant? No 4 -...

Hello Wally - it's lovely to hear from you! One week left here now - a Monday to Monday week in August. Getting loads of enquiries from French guests (just from France Voyage and a FB French dog friendly group) ... but they all seem completely baffled by the idea of arriving on a Monday  . Bless.

So much that could be said, but I'll just stick in two things. 1. Start learning the language NOW! Don't come without any - your life will be impossible, especially if you're starting a business. Don't expect that people will speak English. Mostly, they won't. And depending on when you come - post B...

I'm in the 'good enough' category - but only because of an exceptionally high percentage of repeats, some of whom have booked our new cottage. New bookings are definitely down. Getting very few enquiries - all those I've had have converted, fortunately. I'm taking a reduced number of bookings this y...

We've been approached twice by Sawdays, once in the UK when the books were the thing and once some years ago here - it was a 2 year sign up on both occasions with no room for negotiation. I've never pursued it as the cost is far too great for us in proportion to the number of weeks we have available...

I'm not sure that that's actually a change, josid - it doesn't specifically mention pension income, but it's clear that where cdh is done (a) on an occasional basis and (b) as a supplementary income, then there is no obligation either to register with the CdC or to pay cotisations to RSI. There are ...

That's always the problem, isn't it? It's such a lottery which site works for which place! I might give FV another pop, I think - it's a tiny investment so worth the gamble. And maybe France-Randos.

Thanks all for the responses.

One more question (sorry!) - is anyone with France Voyage? We used to do quite well with them when we first opened as a chambre d'hôtes but I dropped them a couple of years ago as we got so many late/over-occupancy enquiries (even when we were full) that I was spending a ridiculous amount of time an...

Okay, mind made up!

Do any of you guys have any good (and not expensive) recommendations for a French listing site? Must be online-booking and online payment free!

Hmmmm. I'm not feeling inspired then! And the site is very naff looking, which may not help. Mols, all good here, and I'm enjoying having one foot in each side of Occitanie! Though I'm not really feeling the love for the name - are you? Down here (I'm in the PO at the moment) all the villages are ad...

Pour les Vacances

I'm wondering about giving Pour Les Vacances a go as I'd quite like to go back to having some French guests - but I'm not sure whether it would be worth it for what I have left in 2017 (1 August week plus 4 out of season weeks - all of which will almost certainly book anyway). What do other Frenchie...

Nothing has changed recently - it's still not obligatory to register if you do CDH in a 'ponctuelle' fashion rather than as a professional/primary income. Your turnover still needs to be below the magic figure of just under 17K per annum and must not to represent more than 50% of your overall income...
