I have to say I don't like properties that add a heating "surcharge" in the winter at a fixed price. They are just trying to reduce the headline price and then add extras. Our property has electric heating (with an electric boiler and radiators), over the summer people were using about £15...

Wow what a massive thread to read on this subject. I think it would really help to have a sticky thread with a summary of the steps. I currently only advertise with HL, I have a web page which I can see a couple of you looked at but it is not complete, just me playing about at the moment. I would li...

Hi Marsh Frog,

Looks like you are doing well, perhaps I just need to move my cottage nearer the sea?

If you would like a swap for some time in Dorset I would be happy to. :-)

Thanks all for the quick replies! I can't see any logic in the way HL brings up properties, no matter what I do our property seems to come up last. but them I am a glass half empty person ;-) The guidance on short break rates is great and consistent, thank you for that. Perhaps I am getting less hit...

Pricing and short break pricing

Hi All, I am sure this will have been discussed here but I cant find it using the search tool. We bought our property last spring and placed our advert with HL in early May. Considering we were late to start advertising we were quite happy with the bookings we got through the summer. We are currentl...

wii

We decided to put a Wii in our rental, I got an almost new unit on eBay for £50 so not a big outlay. we have had great comments in the guest book about how much fun families had using it. We have supplied a few family friendly games. The funniest thing is when guests create their own Mii, this is li...

Remote control of heating

Our property is in Dorset so not normally too cold. We only have electric heating so not cheap to heat. Our insurance requires the property to be checked every 14 days. I mentioned on another post that we have fitted a WiFi Thermostat (Heatmiser). This does require that we have an Internet connectio...

Raspberry Pi

Hi Nightowl.
The great thing with this software is the ability to track and look back over time. It was a little fiddly to set up, if anyone else wants to try it I can easily make an OS image for the raspberry Pi. Will have to think how it could manage multiple properties!

I recently installed one of these with hot water control,

The port forwarding and dynamic DNS can be a little tricky but once set up the device is rock solid. I was interested in how my guests used the system and found some free software that will collect the data regularly and plot graphs. It gives me peace of mind that the property is warm when guests ar...
