 I've yet to encounter an e-cigarette or a vaper - do they (the e-cigs :-)) leave a smell behind? Can any residual smell or scent be detected on soft furnishings? I've no idea - there was a guy vaping next to me at the airport recently and I didn't like it because the cloud of 'smoke' is r...

My property is non-smoking so maybe I also need to put a 'no vaping' clause in there too

The information on 'reading' the true origins of an email is very, very valuable, but the message being purveyed is still a well worn one.

Owners Direct. 100% of my bookings have come from OD and I am also on HomeAway (since July) from which I have received one spam enquiry and nothing else. I like the HA interface (or I did until they fiddled with their 'dashboard') but I was only using it to keep track of my bookings and the total ab...

When it's corporate it's pretty obvious that the hijacked company is just a victim and no one thinks "Hell, I've done business with that company for years and LOOK! they're scammers !!!!" It just does not happen. Period. Potential clients? If they Google at all the wealth of routine stuff ...

I get two or three versions of this kind of thing every day at work. The main red flag is are you expecting an invoice/debit/credit/whatever from this company or organisation? Ninety nine times out of 100 you don't have to do anything other than just instantly delete the damn thing because it smells...

What really disturbs me about this is the fact that I appear to have been singled out in spite of not being active on the forum of late. It may have gone unnoticed but I have not posted for the best part of a month until today. I have a lot of less than enjoyable stuff going on in my private life an...

Kev you haven't changed my point of view one iota. I am not a techie and you are, but I am representative of the vast majority of holiday home owners whose computer skills are fairly basic. I don't know the first thing about drilling down into 'headers' and what have you, so my first port of call is...

I don't know what an 'email header' is and I have deleted the message.

The point is not that all these scams work in one of only about three or four different ways and that we are all wise to them, but to provide a pathway for people who have received a suspicious enquiry but lack the experience to know if it's likely to be genuine or fake. Often people will Google the...

I can't really work out how this one came to be and what the aim is. Last night I received the well worn "We have decided to book your property. There has been a complete change for my work here which affects the plans we had for our holiday and we have changed the dates! I have attached in the...

I don't have satellite. There was a dish here to pick up German channels for the previous (full time resident) owners but it was a rusted eyesore so I had it taken down. Now I advertise my property with Internet TV only - guests can use their own hardware as a conduit for wifi TV via the Blue Ray pl...
