Re: New tax rules for second homes in Wales

The Welsh government's misguided decision to hammer the FHL sector represents too much of a financial risk/imposition for us to contemplate, so much so that we feel we have no alternative but to cease trading with effect from 30 March 2023. We also sleep 8+1 and have been proud of the modest contrib...

Re: Enquiries for France

I can't speak for France, albeit we spend a couple of months there each year, but our experience here in the Pays de Galles mirrors yours. We are getting plenty of views, but very few enquiries. I guess it doesn't help that the lead story in the media is the impending cost of living crisis, interspe...

How about house-sitting? It's something we do during our letting season and would work equally well during the winter months.

You might want to check out the Auraglow PIR Motion Night Light. The lights look good, are robust and do not have the dreaded fins.

I agree, it does seem odd. That said, we have a guest who returns with his family fairly frequently. The one thing we can be sure of is that our bank account will be peppered with seemingly random amounts. What's more, he doesn't seem to know when to stop. It's pretty bizarre, but something we have ...

Our bookings are well down on previous years. We seem to be getting a reasonable number of hits but, aside from the peak weeks, we have way too many voids. By a happy coincidence, we have been able to replace the lost income but it would have been nice to have gone out on a high. In this context, we...

We receive an invoice from anyone and everyone we deal with and pay them by bank transfer. Our cleaner bills us on a monthly basis, whereas the gardener prefers to be paid at the end of the letting season.

We have had a slightly different experience. Rather than seeking to negotiate a discount, we have a repeat guest who overpays. In fact, he seems to make things up as he goes along. The deposit we receive is always more than we ask for, while the year before last he overpaid the balance by over £300....

I couldn't agree more. Wardrobes are not the most attractive items of furniture and take up much too much room. Have you considered a cheval mirror with hanging space?

We are currently house-sitting at a property with a keyless entry system. It works well from our perspective and relieves us of the worry of getting locked out, which, when you think about it, is a prerequisite for a house-sitter. That and not losing the dog! www.yalestore.co.uk/keyless-connected-sm...

Same here. We've continued with the TA/HL subscription model and fill our calendar without any issues. At the time of writing, bookings for next season are up on the same period last year.
