Hi Newtimber,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
We are still in need of a few more weeks. As we already list on HL, OD, and Airbnb amongst others, I just wondered if it was worth trying.
Thanks anyway.

Cottage World listing site

Does anyone have any experience of Cottage World? They claim in excess of 55000 UK properties and show a reasonable 640 in our area. Many are booked via the likes of Sykes and so on, but they are happy for individual owners to list with them as well. Whilst not the most sophisticated site in the wor...

Our place is in Tier 2 (Shropshire). Our Christmas guests have now cancelled as they live in Tier 4. It seems the rules for grants don't seem to cover this eventuality. We can remain open and we have suffered "significant loss" with our peak Xmas season gone. However, the rules refer to &q...

Waste Management Companies

We are based in Shropshire (so, not too far away) and for some years we used Biffa/Veolia. But we had the same sorting problem you describe. Then Shropshire council offered us a "Schedule 2 Waste" collection service. It's just the same as the domestic collection our neighbours have, but we...

... Well its been a long time, but finally a reply from Heather Wheeler, Minister for Housing and Homelessness has arrived. It sets out the Government's view that it supports the sharing economy by "... increasing the amount of competitively priced accommodation available for tourists." Ho...

Well it took a little while, but here is the update. My email to the chair was returned politely, with the response that Parliamentary etiquette dictates, (as the chair was an MP) I should contact my own MP. I duly did this, together with a much longer explanation of the issues, since it was unlikel...

Thanks to those who have responded. I have a response from The HHA. They support "some" of the proposals. In particular compulsory registration, suggesting "a level playing field" so owners abide by regulatory standards regardless of using traditional websites or Airbnb style por...

Yes Greenbarn, will do.

Three emails fired off tonight. One to the Chair of the Parliamentary Inquiry, one to the HHA...... Oh! and one reply for a booking enquiry at Easter.

I wonder..... Which reply will arrive first?

Will keep you posted.

I agree with the previous posts. But I have a simple solution to solve your understandable concerns. Simply open another email account, with different provider just to be sure. Then automatically forward all incoming emails from your main account to your new account. Then forget about it until your ...

Thanks for the responses. I will follow up with the Chairman of the Inquiry, to understand the line of thinking. If implemented as I read it, this would mean closing our cottage. In the past (in an unrelated trade) I have seen this sort of approach by government, which also resulted in the national ...

UK government propose ban on distant owners?

In July 2018 The Parliamentary Inquiry into the Sharing Economy published a number of proposals affecting holiday rental owners. The report suggests compulsory registration, limiting the number of nights you can rent and new enforcement of tax, insurance, fire and health and safety rules. This is al...
