bed and breakfast room letting in Catalunya

The law was finalised last year to allow the let of individual rooms for tourist use in Catalunya. It was passed over to individual municipalities to set up the control system and registration. For their part the city of Barcelona slapped a lid in things but it seemed that other places were enthusia...

Re: Trustpilot etc.

That may well have been the result of an altercation that involved myself. This was a gross misunderstanding and I apologised to the lady in question. That was in the Spain section and I sincerely hope it didn't contribute to the fall-off in other sections. It is inevitable that there will be hiccup...

Trustpilot etc.

I have recently joined Trustpilot, having heard it referred to several times in LMH. I posted a couple of weeks ago about the poor quality of Teeveeing. I gave them the minimum one star. They seemed to react to all the bad reviews and it got better just before Christmas. Today I posted my view on la...

the painkiller that kills

I think most people will by now be acquainted with the painkiller that has been affecting British people in Spain. It is important to know that it comes with different brand names. I read that it is Nolatil and is widely available in Spain. For some unknown reason it can be disastrous for Brits.I re...

Free book offer

I already put this in the Spain section but it should be in here. I have a crime/romance novel in Kindle Amazon UK called Spirals of Truth by Robert Grieve Black. It is free if you have Kindle Unlimited but also free for everybody 28th and 29th Dec and 4th/5th Jan. It's about an Asian boy who is aba...

a wee bit cheeky

This is a wee bit cheeky and of self-interest. But I have given lots of helpful advice over the years and what I am offering is totally free. I have re-published a book I wrote some years ago and I'm trying to give it a kick start. The print version is a bit expensive since it is done by Amazon but ...

new restrictive law Cataunya

I've been a bit of a Rip Van Winkle. Woke up this morning and thought any owner of a property in Costa Brava, Costa Daurada, Barcelona etc. will want to know about the new law that substantially restricts the number of holiday lets in each municipality. maximum of 10 rentals per 100 population. Some...

Re: Electricity prices / guest usage rules / price hikes since booking

Ditto the comments of CSE. The cost of electricity per unit is set by the large companies and passed down to the smaller suppliers. The Governments of Spain and I believe Portugal passed a law forcing the "mayoristas" to adjust their prices of supply downwards. So, unless something weird h...

New climate law for cars

It appears that the restrictions that have been in place for older cars in Barcelona for a few years will extend to all cities and towns of more than 50,000 population as from 2023. They are also speaking of towns of 20,000 if they have contamination issues. It seems that half of cars currently in u...

Re: Pool Alarm System

Been looking around trying to get a clear distinction between a private pool, a communal pool and a holiday let. It's not clear but general advice is that if you are renting it out to different people it is in the communal corner. The most popular measure seems to be with the pool enclosed by a fenc...

Re: Pool Alarm System

Here's Manomano. It's a website I have used quite often for DIY. I think it's based in France but also trades here in Spain. The link below has an alarm that looks like the one in your link. But I think this could be important, not just for you but for everybody with a pool. If you read the details ...

Re: Pool Alarm System

I have a son(now adult) who needed 24/7 vigilance if there was a pool anywhere nearby INCLUDING ONE TIME HE WANDERED OFF TO THE POOL FROM THE BUFFET LUNCH with my wife in full flight after him. Any system that can help parents is worth looking at. Spain used to hold the world record for kids dying i...

Re: Looking for rental not too far from BCN

Sounds like your looking for the Costa Brava. Calonge is a nice little town a mile or so back from the beach, anywhere near Palafrugell or maybe the spa town of Caldes de Malavella. All of these about an hour from Barcelona. They are in the Province of Girona. Following on from CSE's advice about of...
