Our electric car (a BMW i3) takes 30 kWh to charge fully from completely empty (so that would be an absolute maximum of £4.50 at 15p per kWh from a completely flat battery). On a typical home car charger that might take around 4-6 hours, or on a standard socket it might take 12 hours or longer (new ...

+1 for Howdens. A big plus is that you can easily get replacement doors and fittings too.

A ground source heat pump with underfloor heating. No radiators so furniture layout is much easier. Expensive to install, but unbelievably cheap to run. Hugely energy efficient (as long as your insulation is up to scratch). A much cheaper option from an installation point of view would be electric u...

Don't know if this is going to work, but I've translated the French cleaning protocol and saved the document to Google.
I found this really useful - many thanks for posting it.

Overseas government staff needing to return to the UK

I have a repeat guest, currently working for the UK government overseas, who needs to return to the UK with a vulnerable family member. They will therefore be occupying our holiday accommodation for the next few weeks/months whilst we are empty due to cancellations. Their own property in the UK is t...

Ours came from Mattisons Contract beds (although they're in the UK). There was a choice of short or longer legs, as well as the usual deep divan base. Having legs means cleaning is much easier, plus I think it gives a cleaner and more contemporary look (IMHO).

If you're in the UK then Dunelm has a good selection (particularly their Egyptian cotton & Hotel ranges)- in fact they're quite good for all sorts of household stuff too.

Yes, we've got one at the holiday cottage (and another next door at our own place). Both installed around 5 years ago when we first got an electric car (and were therefore free installs). The car charging point is mentioned on our website, and as we're pretty eco-friendly with ground source heat pum...

I've been with Coolstays since they started out, initially on a free listing and now a paid listing. They generate quite a lot of enquiries for me, however most are poor quality (for me) as they are often for 1 or 2 night bookings (we clearly state 3 night minimum) or are looking for a cheap or last...

Agree with everyone as above, and £100 isn't enough to be a deterrent to damage. We take £250 for a sleeps 6 property if that helps.

Hi - we're just down the road from you in Cragg Vale, Hebden Bridge! I'd say go for the upper end of the market rather than the budget end - once you're up and running your ongoing costs aren't vastly different, whereas your income is. And you're welcome to come and visit us if that would help - we'...

We try to be very eco, so we have 5 bins in the kitchen(!) One is a triple bin, for glass/plastic and tins/paper and card, then there's a standard bin for general waste and we have a composting food bin under the sink. The triple bin is very neat - it's very similar to this: https://www.kitchenmarke...

We have 2 smart TVs at our place, and we don't supply any log-in info for Netflix/ Amazon etc. We do make sure at each changeover that they're both logged out (occasionally they have been left logged in). The log-in page for Netflix always shows a free 30 day trial, so if any guests come along who d...

I know some of the ways in which I manage our property is seen by some members of this forum as me being a bit of a dinasaur but I send paperwork out through the post rather than email I do this - I know some guests might see it as a bit old-fashioned, but I see it as a bit of a security check, esp...
