As Cymraes says, it’s doable. There are plenty of people on LMH who have rental properties in a different country, and we’ve managed! I note you plan to use a cleaning company, which rather pre-empts my suggestion, but for what it’s worth: I found it invaluable to have a local person as “house-manag...

Just a quick rebuttal, Chrishax, if you read my post again, you'll note I didn't say you were rich. I said rich residents, of which I imagine there are plenty in Nice. You are not a resident, but you and they share the requirement to pay taxes in full, without discount.

Not quite. They just don't give a discount for second homes. Also richer residents, who don't qualify for any reduction, pay the full whack, just like you.

Chrisax - perhaps before Circé reprises her namesake, let's simplify matters. In short there are three categories of people who own homes in Nice: 1 People whose main residence is the property in Nice 2 People whose main residence is not in France 3 People whose main residence is elsewhere in France...

No they wouldn’t. I’m a French resident, but not a French citizen.

Interesting! I've just read that under FoM rules technically Brits and other EU members have never had the right to spend more than 90 consecutive days in another EU country! Of course this rule was not policed and "was honoured more in the breach than in the observance", as some minor Dan...

the proposals were for reciprocal rights of free movement, (eliminated early on by the EU rather than the UK) Really? I thought it was the UK that rejected free movement and as a result couldn't stay in the single market, etc. As I recall the Brexit rallying cry was to "take back control of ou...

The view you put might well be that of the French government, but is no more legally valid, since there are agreements requested that France declined to accept in negotiation, so yes they DID have the chance to be fairer to expats but chose not to for wider political purposes. I'm not sure what agr...

I’m not sure if it’s relevant, but my property taxes reduced significantly when we moved into our house in France, which was previously used as a holiday home. Before that, we were paying full whack Fonciere and Habitation, about € 1800 each. We moved in and the Habitation reduced, then after submit...

Why run the pump at all in winter? If you keep your pool open then you need to run the pump to keep leaves going into the skimmer but a cover is better. Trouble is, some pools can’t be covered, then as you say the pump keeps the leaves moving. My skimmers fill up rapidly, but the bulk of the leaves...

If it’s any use, our poolman sets ours in the middle - 2 hours twice a day. Check the consumption of your pump, you’ll probably find it’s pretty minimal in the big scheme of things.

Good idea, CSE, although I haven't cleared out any cookies for a long time; also the post was prompted (end-of-tether wise) by trying to log in to a service on my TV which I had previously set up on my iPad, so cookies wouldn't come into that one.

Still thinking . . .

Log in not recognised

I have been having a lot of problems recently with websites suddenly not recognising my log-ins. It’s happening again and again on different sites, and it’s really annoying. I know it’s not my input error, so I can’t think what the problem is. Is anyone else having similar problems, or do you have a...
