What I loved about the Archers is that you could listen every six months and pick up the story. Now that I do my commuting on two wheels, I don't listen to the radio so I haven't heard it for many years - clearly still a loyal following!

It is obviously better than Tom and Barbara's pea-pod burgundy, then.

Out of the business

We've been trying to sell our cottage for a couple of months without success, but have now let it for the next year. With the Suffolk project and plans to start doing some travelling from next year on, the hurly-burly of arranging bookings, handovers, key holder, plumber, gardener et al seemed all a...

We sleep seven and only supply one key - never been a problem. We found brass keyrings with a nautical theme in the local stationerers, I can only think of a block (pulley, to the landlubbers) though there are several types. Seemed to go well with a seaside house and was just heavy enough that you k...

John, why is BF doing dentistry? Serious question. He is hoping to take over his mother's practice in a few years and then expand from there. Dentistry has social hours, is well paid from the off and looking into people's mouths is better than the orifices that doctors have to examine, even if it w...

An update for our cottage, we now have plans heading towards the local council with tacit approval from the planning lady. Hopefully, we will not have to go to the committee and we'll be moving onwards in about six weeks time. Next challenge is to find a builder; the architect has suggested we put i...

My old post seems to have been resurrected. We are now back in the waiting game for A-level results, still with the same boyfriend (nearly two years!). BF has to get two As and a B for dentistry and daughter needs an A-level for her Art foundation year.

Keeping fingers crossed until August!

Re: Achilles Tendon Rupture

Evening (or rather Morning) All Annoyingly, one of the many things on our list of things to do was to sort out Private Health Care but this hasn't happened Beanie Hope everything is progressing; even going private will not reduce his recovery time and it will be months/a year before he is back on t...

I think handicapped people and families with children shoud always be priority! Absolutely. Alan Been there, done that. Much appreciated to be able to get on the plane first - Tom's last flight he got a lift to get him up to the plane. Only downside is that you are always last off and it seems to t...

Never mind the fosse, we are off on a boat in six weeks time and the heads only deal with matter that has passed through the body - not even toilet paper, it's all a bit gruesome! And if you block them it costs you a case of beer to the flotilla engineer.

I read in the paper that the US is being invaded by small ants that are attracted to electrical goods - not good for computers etc. It wasn't April 1, so I think it was genuine.

Jane had a white poodle when she was a kid. They would go out to Blakeney Point and it would be fine. When they came back, he would leap out of the boat and find a pool of nice saltings mud to roll in before she or her parents could catch him. Home in the car with a dirty smelly dog!

And with total thread creep, the three things you should never have on a sailing boat - an open umbrella, a suitcase or a naval officer.

We visited friends lately and their dog was in disgrace. Apart from nearly pulling Mike's shoulder out of the socket, on that day's walk they had got to a quiet place and Mike looked around to make sure there wasn't any livestock (Leo is not good with any other animal). Off the lead and straight thr...

Many many years ago, my grandparents were both Labour councillors and got a regular stream of people looking for tea and sympathy - and my gran's ginger cake (it was famous). They were mostly poor and cake was a great treat. One of the regulars came in and my gran gave her the first slice of a new c...
