We generally have guests staying for 6-10 weeks in the winter. Normally they bring a dog. We offer a 20% discount on stays of 4 weeks or more. On the plus side it gives us winter income and keeps the property aired. The down side for us depends on how much heating they need to use with rising fuel ...

Wintering in Spain

My wife and I are both retiring this Spring and are seriously considering spending next December, January and February in Spain. I know the max stay is now 90 days. Our own holiday place is in North Norfolk which isn’t quite so appealing at that time of year! Are there any websites that specifically...

I am no expert but it sounds like you are simply buying a house to live in with some land attached so I expect that will be a normal mortgage. I don’t see how the fact that you may put a couple of Shepherds Huts on it at a later time would make a difference. I don’t suppose the hut purchase could be...

We have a Friday changeover by choice in Norfolk. We went for it because we hoped we would get a better service from our cleaning contractor. After 4 years we have no regrets. Having said that we are a one bed with virtually all clients being over 60, so many are retired.

Do you not think the Spanish Government will have a rethink? I think the phrase ‘cutting your nose off to spite your face’ springs to mind. Surely they don’t want all the Brits to sell up and return to the UK?

If the situation with builders and building materials is like it is around our neck of the woods I would wait until you have it finished, or as good as.

Good luck, not that you will need it. I am sure you will make shedloads more money from holiday letting.

Our place in Norfolk did almost as well as usual last year as the lockdowns coincided nicely with when we would normally have few bookings anyway. This year will be our best ever. We are booked solid from April 12th to second week in October.

Our place in Norfolk is on Business Rates and we pay the local Council to collect the refuse. You can buy your own bins or rent from them. We bought our own. They have been great to deal with particularly when we have had to suspend the service during lockdowns. Being on Business rate has had a big ...

We live a couple of hours from our place in Norfolk and I also work away for half the Summer so we opted for a for a very local agent. It does cost us 20% plus VAT, so 24% of turnover but it is great peace of mind to have them managing it. They also make doing the annual tax return a lot easier as t...

Have they given an indication of how much that could be? We can open again in 2 weeks so I was not expect much if anything additional. The descriptions for my council cover so many industries it is hard to work out what the grant could be. We have been told we will be getting £8K which came as a ma...
