Re: Waterproof mattress protectors and fly stains on towels

I use IKEA mattress protectors and a washable topper over them, never any problems or complaints.

Re: Items going missing

Yeah I would deduct from deposit for both dog and throws.
If you don't have a deposit unfortunately I think you have to let it go :(

Re: Bad Review

Yes I agree with the above, it sounds defensive and I'd remove that line. I think you are right to mention the weather - I think most people reading a review understand that bad weather influences how people feel about a stay. I've only ever had one bad review in fifteen years, and the weather was d...

Re: Airbnb extenuating circumstances

I remain extremely cautious about them as despite their happy language they are notorious for throwing hosts under a bus with no comeback at all. However I also have never yet had any problems. But I never use it for peak weeks which to me is where most of the risk is concentrated. It has been brill...

Re: Airbnb do away with damage deposit

That's interesting, I was just thinking over other ramifications of this one and wondering if it was even legal.

Re: Airbnb do away with damage deposit

It is a real worry. The big chalet never really rented through Airbnb but now we are renting the little one we use it a lot. Whilst there are plenty of issues with it, I have to say that in two years of using them, we have never had any problems to do with the platform itself. I think their pricing ...

Re: Cleaning costs and welcome packs. How much is too much??

Longlife milk is a a lot better than nothing if you've driven a long way and just want a cuppa! I actually stopped completely with welcome packs as there was so much wastage and no-one ever said thank you. £16 sounds fine for that setup if you want to do it though. Price for a remote changeover in t...

Re: First year coming up

People do this all kinds of different ways , and different things work for different people. I decided against a dog charge as I have very strict rules about dogs, and it boils down to 'I had better not be able to tell a dog was even there' in which case there's not really a reason to charge. I deci...

Thanks Sunbeam, you saved me the trouble of a lot of typing! I agree totally. We are booking fine without it...I really do not want to do it for all those reasons. I had the same discussion just now with a management company, interestingly, and their view was that, in the properties they manage, the...

Yes I just use plastic loose leaf too. COVID has made it more time consuming for sure. Last year I went fully electronic and removed the paper one because what's the point showing people what they can't have?! Now it's back with an electronic version too for things that you really do need links for ...

I have mine electronically and it’s useful but I would always always have it printed too. The problem is that so many people just don’t read it. Especially if there’s a lot of info. Then they are bugging you, or making mistakes. Whereas a nicely laid out paper version ... people always read it and I...

Another update... We booked summer completely, and winter is filling fast. Babies, tots and teens only, no kids 5-12. (Apart from a couple of returners that we know are OK). No problems and no-one has questioned it. To confirm that it was the right thing to do, the very last family with school age k...

I use Wordpress but it's not for everyone. Most offer a free trial so you can see how it works for you. The one that is best, if you're not confident with technology, is those one that you're most comfortable with. Otherwise it's a stress to update it, so you won't, so it will become less useful. An...
