Re: charging electric vehicles

We have had an electric car charger installed at our holiday let for the intended use of guests. To activate it a RFIC card (credit card size) has to be swiped over the charger and charging can then begin. I realise that it won't be exactly the same as I'm in France, but I'd be interested to know p...

Re: Taxe d'Habitation being Charged on Gite

Hi Anno, thanks for the support. We've sorted out the paperwork we need and have sent our correspondence to someone at the central tax office in Agen who liaises with our mayor - so we'll see. Interestingly, I'm getting advice elsewhere that it might be cheaper for us to get a siret number and pay c...

Taxe d'Habitation being Charged on Gite

We have a gite at the bottom of our garden. The property is only used as a gite and we declare our income to the taxman each year. We live in our main house at the other end of the garden and have no reason therefore to use our gite as a maison secondaire. Nevertheless, last December we received a d...

Short cut button needs a name

Hello Paolo, Like the new site - nice and clean and modern.
Just a small thing - the Lay My Hat short cut button (X) that appears on my Google most frequently used links just has the word "index" underneath it. Would some descriptive word (or initials - LMH) not be better?
Cheers Sue

Interested to see Britany Ferries itself is still advertising cottages/gites as part of a ferry/accommodation package option.

Anyone know what that's about?

I can't see anything on that part of their site that offers me the chance as a gite owner to get in touch to advertise.

And they have to be laminated which takes hours and then you can't recycle the paper... I don't, I just put them in the thin plastic sleeves in a loose-leaf binder. Easy enough to replace. You're right about the changes to restaurants. Covid has been dire for our favourite places - the new owners i...

Whereas a nicely laid out paper version ... people always read it and I get a lot of positive comments. A nice book to leaf through with lovely pics is a much more “holiday” experience. Pictures are vital and both versions have lots of them. Makes a huge difference. It’s a lot of work to do but it ...

Another update... We booked summer completely, and winter is filling fast. Babies, tots and teens only, no kids 5-12. (Apart from a couple of returners that we know are OK). No problems and no-one has questioned it. So that's it now for kids. No more! May I say congratulations. :D :D :D It's lovely...

Thanks everyone for your replies - sorry I've been slow to react. Not getting notifications for some reason.

I've renewed with siteground for another month so that I can give myself a bit of breathing space to look at alternatives. There seem to be so many options it's positively overwhelming!

Shame they are closing - I've had 3 enquiries in the last couple of weeks and out of that a booking for next year. I think they are making a mistake because people like the idea of driving rather than flying and HFD do not add outrageous "service" fees.

Thinking about moving hosting provider

I have my own gite website, designed with great help from this forum. As I understand little or nothing about the whole process I have stuck with the original recommended hosting company. I'm coming up for renewal and it seems to me I'm paying a lot for something I barely use - the website just sits...

HFD demise

Sorry to see Holiday France Direct is throwing in the towel 30th September, though not surprised.

I used their Quickbook system and thought it was very fair. Had several good bookings through them.

With their departure I'll be left with Vrbo and my own website.
